Characteristics of our Curriculum:
Tri-Village Nursery School uses the Creative Curriculum as the foundation for their program as well as the New York State Pre-K Learning Standards. Learning standards outline the expectations for what children should know and be able to do. The framework for our program is based on sound, well-researched practices and supported by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). Meeting these goals and objectives at the preschool level is accomplished through a thematic based curriculum. In other words, teachers develop experiences that are integrated across content areas around a specific topic, theme or question.
Developmentally Appropriate:
Curriculum at TVN is developmentally appropriate helping to foster self-confidence and positive feelings toward learning. Educators use their knowledge of child development along with their knowledge of the individual child to provide students with a variety of meaningful activities and interactions throughout the school day. The child is viewed as an active participant in the learning process and the teacher as an active facilitator who is there to support learning. Responsiveness to individual differences in abilities and interests is evident in the curriculum, environment and adult interactions. There are opportunities for children to play in small groups, whole groups and individually.
