About Tri-Village Nursery School:
Tri-Village Nursery School (TVN), which opened in
1946, is a cooperative, non-discriminatory, secular,
non-profit school. We are located at 428 Kenwood
Avenue in Delmar, in the First United Methodist
Church. The school has a 14 member Board of
Directors, consisting of Tri-village parents and a
teacher representative. The board meets regularly,
assists with parent committees and works closely with
the teaching staff.
Tri-Village offers pre-school programs for three and
four year old children. The class sessions run for two
and a half hours in length and vary in number of days
depending on the specific class. Currently, we offer 2
and 3 day classes for three year olds and 3 and 4 day
classes for four year olds. The children must be three
by December first of that school year in order to be
eligible for enrollment.

The Tri-Village classroom setting:
The classrooms are big, bright and afford the children many creative learning centers. All classrooms have
large window to the outdoors, providing plenty of natural light. Each area of the room is designed to capture
the student's curiosity through play and experimentation. Classes are led by a Teacher who team teaches
with an Assistant Teacher. Each class is also assisted by a Parent Helper, providing an excellent
teacher/student ratio of one adult per four students.
The Tri-Village Curriculum:
TVN teachers use a blended curriculum framework based on sound,
well-researched practices and supported by the National Associatioin
for the Education of Young Children. To meet the many goals of the
curriculum, TVN students are involved in a variety of activities
throughout their week including:
- music classes
- physical education classes
- special guest speakers (a dentist, a veteranarian, a wildlife
biologist, to name a few)
- periodic field trips (Indian Ladder Farm, the Bethlehem Fire
Station, the Troy Science Museum, and others).
On a day-to-day basis throughout the year, children will be exposed
in many different ways to the arts, physical science, mathematics,
cooking, dramatic play, listening, reading, and music. Please see our
curriculum page for more detailed information about what is
accomplished in the classroom.

A cooperative experience for the family:
As a cooperative, TVN offers parents an opportunity for active participation in the educational
experience of their child's formative pre-school years. When enrolling a child at Tri-Village, the parent or
guardian agrees to participate as the Parent Helper for approximately 4-6 days throughout the school
year. Classroom participation is a developmental experience for both parent and child and is a
wonderful opportunity for parent to observe their child in a school environment. Students are usually
very proud to have their parent in class and are excited to serve as the Helping Child on that day with
special responsibilities such as bringing the healthy snack, being the line leader, and bringing something
special for show and tell. In addition to committing several days to the role as Helping Parent, each
Tri-Village family is required to serve on a committee for the school. Committees of parents work
together to manage fund raisers, deal with classroom maintenance, direct child enrichment activities in
the classroom and other responsibilities to help the school run successfully.
