Assistant Teacher Job Description
Associate’s degree preferred
Overview:
The assistant teacher supports the nursery school teacher in creating a safe, caring and developmentally appropriate classroom environment. As directed, the assistant teacher will assist the teacher in the practical organization of activities and group work and will help ensure the safety and well being of each child. The assistant teacher will report directly to the classroom teacher.
Responsibilities:
Education
Work with the teacher to create a safe, caring, and developmentally appropriate learning environment in the classroom.
Assist with day-to-day classroom set up, preparations, and program implementation.
Operation
Assist teacher with setting up classroom for start of school in September
Help prepare bulletin boards, cubbies, etc
Inspect equipment for cleanliness and safety
Assist teacher with classroom management. Address discipline issues according to TVN policy.
Communicate effectively with parents concerning students
Attend monthly staff meetings
Attend “Meet the Teacher” Days, Parent Orientation night, and Open Houses
Assist parent volunteers in the classroom
Assist teacher with daily set up and clean up of classroom
Help conduct end-of-year cleaning, inventory, and disposal of damaged equipment
Assist with 4 year-old graduation ceremony
Maintain updated CPR training
Adhere to TVN budget when using supplies
