Education Director Job Description
Master’s Degree in ECE or related field and NYS Certified N-3, N-6 preferred
Minimum: Bachelor’s Degree in ECE or related field with 3 years experience required
Overview:
The Education Director is charged with the direct responsibility of overseeing administrative, programmatic, and day-to-day operation of the nursery school. The Education Director provides leadership for the school and sets the overall vision for the school’s program with the ultimate goal of ensuring TVN prepares students with the necessary skills they need to be successful in kindergarten. The Education Director will develop the school’s program based on TVN’s overall mission, policies and procedures and will report directly to the Board of Trustees. Along with administrative duties, the Education Director will have classroom teaching responsibilities.
Hours:
The Education Director is expected to be on-call between the hours of 9:00am and 12:30pm when class is in session. S/he is expected to spend at least eight hours per week (during school hours) at the school. Monthly board meetings and field trips count for those hours. Additional hours may be worked from home. Within these constraints, the schedule for this position is flexible, but should be predictable for staff and board.
Salary:
This is a part-time position. The Education Director is expected to work 8-10 hours per week when school is in session. Salary is reflective of these hours and commensurate with experience.
Responsibilities:
Supervision:
Responsible for supervision and evaluation of all staff members and substitute teachers
Administration:
Attend monthly board meetings
Conduct monthly staff meetings
Participate on hiring/firing committees when necessary
Conduct performance evaluations for all staff members
Schedule additional annual performance evaluations of all staff by an outside party
Provide opportunities for professional development, staff collaboration and team building
Maintain TVN’s membership with the National Association for the Education of Young Children
Serve as a member on school committees pertaining to daily and classroom operations
Work with the President to prepare annual teacher contracts
Finalize end of the year student evaluations
Submit annual report to the President
Carryout overall mission, policies, and procedures of school
Operation:
Assume responsibility for the daily operation of the nursery school program
Arrange for substitute teachers when necessary
Act as liaison between the church, staff, board, parents
Handle complaints, concerns, and conflicts from the church, parents and staff
Facilitate preparation and implementation of “Meet the Teacher” Days, Parent Orientation night, Parent/Teacher Conferences, Open House, and Graduation
Address medical issues that may arrive in the classroom
Attend and supervise all school field trips
Communicate with Board of Trustees and keep the board updated about daily operations
Order school supplies, paper products, and snacks
Education:
Establish and revise curriculum as needed. Standardize where appropriate. Obtain input from teachers and staff.
Reevaluate at the end of each year
Monitor adherence to curriculum in classroom
Remain current on issues and trends in early childhood education
Provide and organize opportunities for student enrichment inside and outside the classroom
Schedule monthly enrichment programs
Schedule field trips for the classes
Keep apprised of changes in the kindergarten curriculum
Generate new ideas to keep current with the structure of BCSD and to meet the needs of the community. Bring all the ideas to the board for approval.
