Helpful information for the start of school

TVN holds several events to help families prepare for the start of school. Many of these are class-specific. Dates and times are provided on the 2018-2019 TVN calendar.

Meet the Teacher

Meet the Teacher Day is an opportunity for students to visit their new classrooms. They will have a chance to meet their teachers and each other. Often, the teachers will provide a scavenger hunt or other informal "getting to know you" activities. Parents are encouraged to stay with their children.

Parent Orientation Night

Parent Orientation Night is for parents only. There will be class-specific orientations with teachers in each of the classrooms. The evening also includes a "Town Hall" meeting where there will be general announcements, information about afterschool enrichment options for the year, and an opportunity for volunteer committees to meet. In 2018, Town Hall will take place at 7pm on Wednesday, 9/12. Class-specific orientations will take place on the same evening, as follows:
  • Mrs. Dubin's 5-day class: 6:30pm in Room #119
  • Mrs. Jeffers's 2-day class: 6:30pm in Room #116
  • Mrs. Civill's 4-day class: 6:30pm in Room #117
  • Mrs. Daggett's 4-day class: 7:30pm in Room #120
  • Mrs. Jeffers's 3-day class: 7:30pm in Room #116

Orientation

Orientation is a shortened class where students will have a chance to meet for the first time without parents. Parents may, if desired, wait in the lobby of the school until the end of class. Coffee and light refreshments will be provided. For most classes, the orientation schedule is provided on the 2018-2019 calendar. Mrs. Jeffers's orientation schedule can be downloaded here.

Transition Period for 3-year-olds

A transition period will be observed in our three-year-old classes. During this period, students will have shortened classes, which will allow them to slowly adjust to a new routine. We recognize that this transition period is not essential for all students, but have found that it's an important feature for many of our families. Regular classes will begin for our three-year-olds about two weeks after the start  of school.

Health Forms, Toilet Training and Water Bottles

Your child is expected to be toilet trained upon entering school. Your child needs to be able to identify the need to use the restroom without intervention. It is expected that your child does not regularly have accidents in the classroom. If you have concerns or questions about this policy, please direct them to Alison Fisk, TVN's Education Director.
Please remember to send your child to school with a water bottle every day. The parent helper will be responsible for bringing a nut-free snack.
